SEO for taxis: win the call the moment a customer needs a car

A taxi is searched for in a hurry and booked with a call: the Google Maps listing is the real switchboard. Across 200 listings surveyed in Lyon and Marseille, 87% show no opening hours and 44% have no website. The customer cannot tell whether you are driving right now, so they call the next one.

How customers search for a taxi

“Taxi” is typed 110,000 times a month in France, and with a city: 18,100 in Paris, 14,800 in Marseille, 12,100 in Lyon, 8,100 in Toulouse. “Taxi près de moi” (taxi near me) adds 480 searches a month. An ad click costs €2.33 on average: every call won without advertising is worth that price.

Two needs hide behind these searches. The immediate ride, settled with one call to the first credible number. And the booked ride: a transfer to the station or the airport, a long-distance trip, medical transport, a business journey. That one gets compared, and it is won with clear pages and a way to book without waiting.

The mistakes that cost taxi firms customers

A listing with no hours

87% of the listings surveyed show no opening hours at all. For a transport service, missing hours suggest nobody answers. If you drive at night and at weekends, say so: that is exactly what the customer is looking for at five in the morning.

No website, or a website that does not state the service

44% of listings show no website. Among the sites analysed, 41% have no main heading that states the service and the city, a problem that comes up about as often as the average of all trades.

Nothing readable for Google or for AI

50% of the sites analysed do not describe the business in structured data (area, hours, phone). Google shows an AI-generated answer on “taxi marseille”: it relies on the facts it finds, and yours are not among them.

Priority actions

  1. Claim and complete the Google Business Profile

“Taxi service” category, real opening hours (24 hours a day if that is the case), service area, a photo of the vehicle, direct phone number.
  2. Create one page per recurring trip

Station, airport, hospitals, neighbouring towns, long distance: with the usual journey time, booking conditions and the number at the top of the page.
  3. Make booking instant

Tappable phone number and WhatsApp on every page, and a short form for booked rides (date, time, pick-up, drop-off).
  4. State the services offered clearly

Approved medical transport (“transport conventionné” in France) if you are licensed for it, card payment, child seats, bulky luggage: these are the questions asked before booking.
  5. Ask for a review at the end of the ride

A message with the profile link, sent after booked rides. Google allows you to ask for reviews, not to buy them.
  6. Describe the business in structured data

LocalBusiness type, service area, opening hours, phone, identical to the Google Business Profile.

Frequently asked questions

Does a taxi need a website if the Google listing already brings calls?

The listing wins the immediate call; the website wins the booked rides (station, airport, long distance) and gives Google the facts it reuses in its answers. The two work together.

Should fares be shown?

Explaining how the fare is calculated and giving real examples of frequent trips reassures the customer who books ahead. An honest indication is better than no information.

How long before a completed listing shows results?

Opening hours and category can be fixed in a day; the effects of reviews and new pages are generally measured over a few weeks to a few months, depending on competition in the city.

Method

Google Maps results (up to 100 listings) for the trade’s search query, centred on the city, collected via OpenSEO on 18/10/2026. Free website analysis (lib/audit.js): home page, robots.txt, sitemap.xml, llms.txt. No paid tools. Listings without a website, platform pages (Doctolib, Planity, Facebook, Instagram, Google Sites…) and network pages appearing 3 times or more: counted in the listings, not in the sites analysed. The score out of 100 is the tool’s own, which also counts server response time (4 points out of 100). Server response times are not published: they were measured from outside France and do not reflect what a visitor in France sees. No business name or website address is published: only aggregated statistics.

Search volumes: Average monthly search volumes on Google, France, French language, Google Ads data via OpenSEO (DataForSEO). CPC = estimated average cost of an ad click, in euros.

The data covers businesses in France (websites and Google Maps listings in French cities), and searches and volumes are from Google France.
