SEO for physiotherapists: a practice that exists beyond Doctolib

Patients find a physiotherapist on Google Maps, and the listing most often leads to an online booking calendar. Of the 200 listings we surveyed in Bordeaux and Paris, 50% link only to a booking platform (48% of all of them to Doctolib) and 21% show no link at all. The practice that describes its work on its own website has the conversation to itself.

How customers search for a physiotherapist

Patients type “kiné” (the everyday French word for physio) far more than the full job title: 40,500 searches a month in France. With a city, Google reports 4,400 searches a month for “kinésithérapeute paris” (€1.61 per ad click). For the other cities, Google publishes no volume for these health searches: the demand exists, it is simply not quantified.

The search often starts from a prescription or an injury: knee, shoulder or back rehab, sports physio, home visits, a practice open early or on Saturdays. The patient wants a nearby slot and to know whether the practice treats their case. On the professional side, “site internet kinésithérapeute” (physiotherapist website) gets only 10 searches a month: very few practices are working on it.

The mistakes that cost physiotherapists customers

Handing your whole presence to the platform

50% of physio listings link only to a booking platform, more often than the average trade in the study. Appointments keep coming as long as the platform shows you; the day it changes its rules, you have nothing of your own.

Very few reviews on the listing

37% of the listings surveyed have fewer than 10 reviews: practices are in this position about as often as the study average. Prominence is one of the three criteria of Google’s local ranking.

No page about what the practice treats

40% of the physio websites analysed have fewer than 400 words on the home page, about as often as the average trade. Without text about the rehab you offer, Google cannot show you for “kiné du sport” (sports physio) or “kiné à domicile” (home-visit physio).

Priority actions

  1. Complete your Google Business Profile

The exact primary category, real opening hours, accessibility, home visits if you do them, photos of the practice and the treatment room, a link to your website.
  2. Build a short but precise website

One page per real specialty (post-operative rehab, sport, respiratory, pelvic floor, home visits), with how a session runs and what the patient should bring.
  3. Keep the booking calendar as a button

Online booking stays, as a button on every page; your Google Business Profile points to your website.
  4. Reply to reviews with restraint

A thank you, practical information, nothing about anyone’s health or treatment.
  5. Describe the practice in structured data

MedicalBusiness or Physiotherapy type, address, opening hours, phone number, identical to your Google Business Profile.

Frequently asked questions

Does a physio need a website if the diary is already full?

A full practice chooses its patients and its slots. The website attracts the searches that match what you treat and makes you less dependent on a single platform.

Can I ask my patients for Google reviews?

Google allows you to ask for reviews, not to buy or filter them. In France, the professional communication rules for physiotherapists apply on top of Google’s: check with your professional body before any systematic approach.

Do I need one page per town?

One page per area you really cover, for home visits for example, with its own content. Identical pages where only the town name changes add nothing.

Method

Google Maps results (up to 100 listings) for the trade’s search query, centred on the city, collected via OpenSEO on 18/10/2026. Free website analysis (lib/audit.js): home page, robots.txt, sitemap.xml, llms.txt. No paid tools. Listings without a website, platform pages (Doctolib, Planity, Facebook, Instagram, Google Sites…) and network pages appearing 3 times or more: counted in the listings, not in the sites analysed. The score out of 100 is the tool’s own, which also counts server response time (4 points out of 100). Server response times are not published: they were measured from outside France and do not reflect what a visitor in France sees. No business name or website address is published: only aggregated statistics.

Search volumes: Average monthly search volumes on Google, France, French language, Google Ads data via OpenSEO (DataForSEO). CPC = estimated average cost of an ad click, in euros.

The data covers businesses in France (websites and Google Maps listings in French cities), and searches and volumes are from Google France.
