How customers search for a dentist
“Dentiste” (dentist) is searched 201,000 times a month in France. With a city, Google reports 5,400 for “dentiste lyon”, 5,400 for “dentiste toulouse”, 4,400 for “dentiste lille”. For Paris, Marseille, Bordeaux and Nantes, Google publishes no volume: the demand exists, it simply is not quantified.
Patients search from their phone, near home or work, often with a precise need: pain, a broken tooth, a first appointment, treatment for a child. They look at the map, the reviews, the opening hours, then they want to know whether the practice takes new patients. A paid click costs €1.17 on average for “dentiste”, and only 10 searches a month are for “référencement dentiste” (dentist SEO): few practices work on the subject, the field is open.

The mistakes that cost dentists customers
Letting the online booking diary act as the website
25% of dentists’ listings only link to a booking platform. Practices do this more often than the average across the trades in the study. The diary takes the appointment; it presents neither the team, nor the treatments, nor how the practice works, and that page does not belong to you.
A home page that does not say what the practice does
60% of the dentists’ websites analysed have no main heading that says what the practice does, more often than the average across trades. Google has to guess the treatments offered and the city.
A listing without reliable opening hours
19% of the dentists’ listings we collected show no opening hours, about as often as the study average. A patient in pain wants to know straight away whether the practice is open, and what to do if it is closed.

Frequently asked questions
Is a profile on a booking platform enough?
It is enough to book, not to be chosen. The profile belongs to the platform and looks like all the others; your website presents your treatments and how you work, and gives Google what it needs to rank you on precise searches.
Can a dentist ask for Google reviews?
Google allows you to ask for reviews, not to buy or filter them. In France, the communication rules specific to dental surgeons come on top of Google’s: check with your professional order (Ordre des chirurgiens-dentistes) before any systematic approach. In your replies, never confirm that someone is a patient of the practice.
One website per practitioner or one for the practice?
One website for the practice, with a page per practitioner and per treatment. One strong address is better than several small sites competing with each other in the same city.
Method
Google Maps results (up to 100 listings) for the trade’s search query, centred on the city, collected via OpenSEO on 18/10/2026. Free website analysis (lib/audit.js): home page, robots.txt, sitemap.xml, llms.txt. No paid tools. Listings without a website, platform pages (Doctolib, Planity, Facebook, Instagram, Google Sites…) and network pages appearing 3 times or more: counted in the listings, not in the sites analysed. The score out of 100 is the tool’s own, which also counts server response time (4 points out of 100). Server response times are not published: they were measured from outside France and do not reflect what a visitor in France sees. No business name or website address is published: only aggregated statistics.
Search volumes: Average monthly search volumes on Google, France, French language, Google Ads data via OpenSEO (DataForSEO). CPC = estimated average cost of an ad click, in euros.
The data covers businesses in France (websites and Google Maps listings in French cities), and searches and volumes are from Google France.
