SEO for joiners: from work people can see to a workshop people can find

A joiner sells what they show: a kitchen, a staircase, fitted windows, a bespoke fit-out. The customer falls for a photo, then checks on Google who does it near them. Of the 79 joiners’ websites we analysed in Marseille and Paris, 9% have at least one issue that holds back their visibility, and 11% of Google listings only link to a social network.

The mistakes that cost joiners customers

The workshop’s name instead of the trade

39% of joiners’ sites have no main heading that says what they do, less often than the average across trades. A beautiful workshop name in large type does not tell Google “bespoke joiner in Marseille”.

Photos without a word around them

38% of sites have fewer than 400 words on the home page, about as often as the average, and 22% leave more than a fifth of their images without a description. Google reads text, not the beauty of the oak: without a caption, a finished piece ranks for nothing.

No tappable phone number

34% of sites have no tappable phone or WhatsApp number on the home page, about as often as the average. The customer who has just seen your staircase on their phone wants to call straight away.

Priority actions

  1. Turn the Google Business Profile into a gallery

Primary category “Joiner” (Menuisier on Google France), genuine secondary categories, service area, opening hours, and photos of recent work, added job after job.
  2. Keep Instagram, but point to the website

The link on your Google Business Profile goes to your website, and the website shows your best work with text around it. Instagram stays the shop window, the website becomes the address.
  3. One page per type of work

Kitchens, staircases, wardrobes and cupboards, windows and doors, shop fit-outs: photos, wood species or materials, the town of the job, the usual lead time.
  4. Caption every photo

A short, truthful image description (“quarter-turn oak staircase, Marseille”): it is what Google reads in place of the image.
  5. A quote form that fits the work

Type of work, approximate dimensions, photos of the room, preferred timing. The quote is prepared before the site visit.

Frequently asked questions

Is Instagram enough for a joiner?

To show the work, it is an excellent tool. To be found on Google, it falls short: a profile does not say in text what you do, where and for whom. The most effective set-up links all three, with the listing pointing to the website.

Should I show prices for bespoke work?

Honest benchmarks help customers picture the project: what makes the price vary (wood species, finishes, dimensions, fitting) and, if you can, ranges seen on your own jobs.

Making or fitting: should my website choose?

It should say so. The customer looking for a bespoke piece of furniture is not the one who wants new windows. One page per real activity avoids requests that do not suit you.

Method

Google Maps results (up to 100 listings) for the trade’s search query, centred on the city, collected via OpenSEO on 18/10/2026. Free website analysis (lib/audit.js): home page, robots.txt, sitemap.xml, llms.txt. No paid tools. Listings without a website, platform pages (Doctolib, Planity, Facebook, Instagram, Google Sites…) and network pages appearing 3 times or more: counted in the listings, not in the sites analysed. The score out of 100 is the tool’s own, which also counts server response time (4 points out of 100). Server response times are not published: they were measured from outside France and do not reflect what a visitor in France sees. No business name or website address is published: only aggregated statistics.

Search volumes: Average monthly search volumes on Google, France, French language, Google Ads data via OpenSEO (DataForSEO). CPC = estimated average cost of an ad click, in euros.

The data covers businesses in France (websites and Google Maps listings in French cities), and searches and volumes are from Google France.
