SEO for roofers: proof from the job site

A roofer is chosen on proof: photos of re-roofed houses, a real address, insurance on display. A homeowner who finds a leak after a storm searches fast, but is wary of door-to-door canvassers. Of the 58 roofers’ sites analysed in Bordeaux and Nantes, 21% have at least one issue that blocks their visibility.

How customers search for a roofer

“Couvreur” is typed 49,500 times a month in France, and searches with a city carry real weight: 6,600 for “couvreur bordeaux”, 5,400 for “couvreur nantes”, 4,400 for “couvreur toulouse”. Homeowners add their city because they want someone who can come and look at the roof, not a call centre.

An ad click costs €4.07 on average on the word alone, up to €5.02 for “couvreur marseille”. Demand jumps after every wind or hail episode: those who already rank well that day take the calls without paying that price.

The mistakes that cost roofers customers

No quote request on the home page

38% of roofers’ sites have no form on the home page: they fail this less often than the average of all trades. A roof is priced on a quote: without a simple form (address, problem, photos), the request goes to the competitor who has one.

A Google description that does not make people click

40% of the sites have no usable page description and 34% have no usable page title. Roofers fail less often than the average on the description. Yet that is the line where you say city, specialities and fast response.

A business invisible to structured data

55% of the sites do not describe the business in structured data (activity, address, area, opening hours): they fail this about as often as the average. Google and AI assistants cannot confirm that you are a real roofer based in the area.

Priority actions

  1. Turn the Google Business Profile into a job log

Primary category “Roofing contractor”, service area, exact opening hours, and recent photos of your roofs, dated by the post. Real photos, never stock images.
  2. Show your insurance and address

If you have it, your French ten-year liability insurance certificate (assurance décennale) available to view, your address and your company number on every page. A wary homeowner checks these three things.
  3. One page per type of job

Leak detection, full re-roofing, zinc work and gutters, moss removal, roof insulation if you do it: with before and after photos and the area covered.
  4. A three-field quote form

Job address, problem observed, photos from the phone. And the number as a call link for urgent leaks.
  5. Ask for a review after every finished job

By text message with the profile link, on the day the work ends. Google allows you to ask for reviews, not to buy or filter them.

Frequently asked questions

How do I stand out from canvassers after a storm?

Through what they lack: a real address, a long-standing Google Business Profile with steady reviews, dated jobs in your city and insurance the customer can view. Put this proof at the top of the website, not in the footer.

Should a roofer’s website show prices?

Real indicative ranges, yes, when they are stable (moss removal, replacing a few tiles). For full re-roofing, explain instead what makes the quote vary: area, material, access, condition of the roof structure.

Are photos of jobs enough for Google?

They reassure the customer, but Google also reads the text. Give each set a caption: town, type of work, material. An empty image description tells Google nothing.

Method

Google Maps results (up to 100 listings) for the trade’s search query, centred on the city, collected via OpenSEO on 18/10/2026. Free website analysis (lib/audit.js): home page, robots.txt, sitemap.xml, llms.txt. No paid tools. Listings without a website, platform pages (Doctolib, Planity, Facebook, Instagram, Google Sites…) and network pages appearing 3 times or more: counted in the listings, not in the sites analysed. The score out of 100 is the tool’s own, which also counts server response time (4 points out of 100). Server response times are not published: they were measured from outside France and do not reflect what a visitor in France sees. No business name or website address is published: only aggregated statistics.

Search volumes: Average monthly search volumes on Google, France, French language, Google Ads data via OpenSEO (DataForSEO). CPC = estimated average cost of an ad click, in euros.

The data covers businesses in France (websites and Google Maps listings in French cities), and searches and volumes are from Google France.
