How customers search for a landscaper
“Paysagiste” (landscaper) is searched 90,500 times a month in France, while the 7 major cities we tracked together account for only 8,880 searches with their name (1,600 for “paysagiste paris”). The word alone mixes very different intentions: homeowners with a project, people curious about the trade, garden ideas. Local searching happens mostly on Google Maps, around the customer’s home.
A paid click costs €1.33 on average, the cheapest of the building trades in our study. Advertising is not what wins here: what makes the difference is a Google Business Profile and a website that show the work.

The mistakes that cost landscapers customers
A site that is not secure
9% of landscapers’ sites are not on HTTPS, more often than the average across trades. The browser warns visitors before they even see your gardens, and the quote form looks risky.
No quote request on the home page
57% of sites have no form on the home page and 47% no tappable phone number. Landscapers fail more often than the average on the form. Yet a garden is priced on a quote, with surface area and photos.
A title that names neither the trade nor the area
41% of sites have no usable title tag and 52% no main heading that names the trade, more often than the average. “Garden design” without a city does not tell Google where you work.
Priority actions
Prepare the Google Business Profile before spring
Primary category “Landscaper”, service area, real opening hours, photos of finished gardens; a post at the end of winter announcing garden design work and maintenance contracts.A portfolio per type of project
Garden design, patios and paths, fences and hedges, irrigation, maintenance: before and after photos, town, length of the job.A quote form that saves time
Approximate surface area, type of project, photos of the plot, preferred period. The first appointment is prepared before travelling.Move the site to HTTPS
A free certificate is usually enough; then check that every page and the form open in https.A separate maintenance page
Mowing, pruning, clearing, yearly contracts: it is the customer who comes back every season, and a different search from garden design.
Frequently asked questions
When should a landscaper work on SEO?
Before the season, not during it. Garden projects are often planned from the end of winter: the listing, last year’s photos and the project pages must be in place by then.
Should I publish photos of all my jobs?
The most representative ones are enough, with a truthful caption (town, type of project, plants or materials). Ten well-described projects beat a gallery of a hundred images without a word.
Design or maintenance: do I need two websites?
One website, two clearly separate pages. They are not the same customers, nor the same searches, nor the same form.
Method
Google Maps results (up to 100 listings) for the trade’s search query, centred on the city, collected via OpenSEO on 18/10/2026. Free website analysis (lib/audit.js): home page, robots.txt, sitemap.xml, llms.txt. No paid tools. Listings without a website, platform pages (Doctolib, Planity, Facebook, Instagram, Google Sites…) and network pages appearing 3 times or more: counted in the listings, not in the sites analysed. The score out of 100 is the tool’s own, which also counts server response time (4 points out of 100). Server response times are not published: they were measured from outside France and do not reflect what a visitor in France sees. No business name or website address is published: only aggregated statistics.
Search volumes: Average monthly search volumes on Google, France, French language, Google Ads data via OpenSEO (DataForSEO). CPC = estimated average cost of an ad click, in euros.
The data covers businesses in France (websites and Google Maps listings in French cities), and searches and volumes are from Google France.
