SEO for hairdressers: a salon people book directly, not only through an app

A hair salon is won on Google Maps, a few streets either way. Of the 200 hairdresser listings we surveyed in Lille and Nantes, 59% have no website of their own and 22% send people straight to Planity. The salon that shows its services, prices and work on its own site keeps its clients.

The mistakes that cost hairdressers customers

No website of your own

59% of the hairdresser listings surveyed have no website of their own, more often than the average trade in the study. Without a page of your own, the listing points to an app that also shows the salons nearby, or to nothing.

A page title that says nothing

43% of the hairdresser websites analysed have no usable page title, about as often as the average trade. The title is the first line people read in Google: the salon’s name alone says neither the trade nor the neighbourhood.

No tappable number or booking button

57% of the hairdresser websites analysed have no tappable phone number on the home page, more often than the average trade. On mobile, a client who cannot find the button books elsewhere.

Priority actions

  1. Complete your Google Business Profile

The exact primary category (hairdresser, barber), services and prices on the listing, opening hours, recent photos of the salon and your work, a link to your website.
  2. Show your prices as text

Women’s cut, men’s cut, colour, balayage, treatments: a price list Google can read, not a photo of the window.
  3. Show your work

A gallery of the salon’s work, with alt text that describes the cut or the colour. Instagram can feed it, the website carries it.
  4. Take bookings directly

A booking button and a tappable phone number at the top of every page; your booking tool can stay the same, your website becomes the front door.
  5. Ask for a review at every visit

A QR code at the till or a text message with the link to your listing. Google allows you to ask for reviews, not to buy or filter them.

Frequently asked questions

Is Planity enough for a hair salon?

It brings bookings and real visibility. The downside: the client books with the platform, which also shows them the salons nearby. A well-built website and Google Business Profile bring direct clients, who stay yours.

How do I rank above nearby salons on Google Maps?

Google combines distance, relevance and prominence. Exact categories, named services, recent photos and regular reviews work on the two criteria you control.

Does a small salon need a website?

A simple page is enough: services, prices, your work, opening hours, address, booking button. That is the page Google reads to rank you for “coupe homme” (men’s haircut) or “balayage” in your neighbourhood.

Method

Google Maps results (up to 100 listings) for the trade’s search query, centred on the city, collected via OpenSEO on 18/10/2026. Free website analysis (lib/audit.js): home page, robots.txt, sitemap.xml, llms.txt. No paid tools. Listings without a website, platform pages (Doctolib, Planity, Facebook, Instagram, Google Sites…) and network pages appearing 3 times or more: counted in the listings, not in the sites analysed. The score out of 100 is the tool’s own, which also counts server response time (4 points out of 100). Server response times are not published: they were measured from outside France and do not reflect what a visitor in France sees. No business name or website address is published: only aggregated statistics.

Search volumes: Average monthly search volumes on Google, France, French language, Google Ads data via OpenSEO (DataForSEO). CPC = estimated average cost of an ad click, in euros.

The data covers businesses in France (websites and Google Maps listings in French cities), and searches and volumes are from Google France.
